City Council Candidate, Voter-in-Training

I can't do this without your help. No, really...

Hey there. I'm Alejandro, and I'm running for City Council.

But before I lead, I need to learn. Specifically: how to vote in a city election. And I don't mean that metaphorically. I mean I literally don't know how. I've never done it.

🗳️ Wait... City Elections are a real thing?

I mean, I definitely voted before, but apparently, not every election is presidential. We vote for stuff between every four years now, I guess?

This has been a shock to me.

Turns out cities hold municipal elections to decide things like:

  • City Council seats (hi!)
  • School board members
  • Local ballot measures (like funding for libraries or bike lanes)
  • Should we fund schools or just let kids run wild?

I genuinely thought all these decisions just happened at Town Hall meetings after someone stood up and shouted "AYE!" Nope. There are actual ballots, voting deadlines, and early voting options specific to your city.

Take it easy, Kate

Okay, real talk: my opponent, Kate, has been voting a lot. Like, a for years...

I looked up her voting record (which, yes, apparently is a thing you can do). Turns out, she has voted in every city election she can. City council, school board, all these tiny ballot initiatives...she just doesn't stop.

Honestly, it’s kind of intimidating.

But here’s the thing: while Kate is great at voting, I’m great at… asking questions about voting. And if this city needs anything right now, it’s curiosity. Also donuts. But mostly curiosity.

So yeah, Kate has the experience. But I have the journey. And who would you rather elect: the person who already knows about city government, or the one who’s learning along with you in real time?

The Platform

You might be thinking: If Alejandro's never voted in a city election before, what makes him think he's qualified to run for office?

Great question.

I've got ideas. I've got energy. I've got a Canva account and a dream.

Here's what I believe in:

  • Vibes
  • That dog riding a skateboard meme from 2007 was hilarious

Most importantly, I believe in asking questions. Smart ones. Dumb ones. Honest ones. Because if I can learn how to vote, then honestly? So can anyone.
